On Saturday, 7 September 2024, teachers from SIS Berlin participated in the SIS Germany-Wide Professional Development (PD) Day. This event brought together educators from across the network of SIS schools in Germany to focus on a critical aspect of assessment. The professional development workshop explored how assessment practices should be adapted to align with students' educational levels, the specific requirements of state curricula, and the SIS Curriculum, whilst complying with the SIS Berlin Assessment Guidelines.
During the PD, teachers delved into strategies for assessing student learning in a way that respects the developmental stages of their learners and in accordance with Berlin education authority regulations. They discussed how to balance the expectations of the Berlin state curricula with SIS’s internal approach, ensuring that assessments are both rigorous and meaningful across different school levels and subjects. The session emphasised the importance of assessments that not only measure academic progress but also support individual growth, reflecting the unique strengths and needs of each student.
