In January SIS Zürich-Wollishofen held its annual student chess tournament. Over half of the primary 2 to 6 students participated in the event. The competition took place over the course of a week, with primary 2 and 3 students competing together in one category, and primary 4 to 6 in the other. The top 8 scoring students in each category received a medal, with of course the highlighted bronze, silver, and gold medal winners.
The chess tournament is a highly anticipated event, with many teachers coming to the competition to help with the organization and scoring process. Primary 6 students are responsible for set-up and clean-up of the chess boards, pieces, and timers. It is a great opportunity for students to compete in a friendly yet serious competitive event, while practice their chess skills.
