A Stimulating Learning Environment that Embraces Childrens' Curiosity

Learning to learn: Our English/German bilingual reception programme offers preschool children a stimulating and supportive learning environment. We nurture their innate curiosity with the world by offering diverse learning opportunities in our day school concept.

Reception Programme Curriculum

The reception programme at SIS Kassel is intended for children from five to seven years of age and is affiliated to the SIS Kassel Primary School.

Children who start our reception programme at the age of five are playfully introduced to the content of primary school lessons, familiarised with the daily routine and the structure of our school. During the course of the day, the children have several mini lessons alternating between free play and break time. The classroom offers a stimulating learning environment with different learning stations that the children can either explore individually or under guidance from the teachers.

The second year of our reception programme focuses on children at the age of six. The content is closely aligned to the Hessian core curriculum for Year 1 and we follow the corresponding timetable, which is supplemented by additional teaching units and learning times.

Children can be admitted to the first or secoond year of our reception programme - depending on their age and their emotional and cognitive maturity level. At the end of the second year of our reception programme, students generally move up to Year 2 of the SIS primary school.

Bilingual Reception Programme

During the entire reception programme children are taught and supervised by German- and English-speaking teachers alternatingly, so that both languages are equally anchored in the daily routine of the reception programme. It is important to us that our students not just acquire learning content but also skills and competencies that motivate them to become independent explorers and thinkers.

Full-Day Concept

We want to actively support families by offering a comprehensive and flexible all-day concept. Your child can be supervised at school from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. Lessons take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and school days are divided into regular intervals with time for learning, play and breaks. Our early care from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. allows children to arrive and get ready for the day. We provide homework supervision from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., children can participate in after-school clubs, or they can read, play or rest.

Eventful School Days

Regular excursions, games, sports and exercise play an important role. The children take part in activities and projects across year levels, and celebrate local and international festivals and traditions. Furthermore, they gain their first, age-appropriate experiences in the areas of digital technology, programming, media as well as communication and e-safety.

Engaging Learning Spaces

The school building offers bright and friendly premises: spacious classrooms and group rooms, a dining hall, a gymnasium and imaginatively designed outdoor areas.
