Classes in German and English at Our Lively Day School

At our primary school, students acquire high-level language skills in both English and German, which is of paramount importance at this level. We promote awareness and respect for other cultures as the cornerstone of an international education. We aim to empower students and give them a voice in their learning process.

Primary School Curriculum

At our bilingual primary school, teaching is based on the Hessian core curriculum. This state curriculum is supplemented by elements of the British educational system as well as by pedagogical practices developed by SIS. The development of language skills in German and English is of paramount importance at this level, which is why we have developed our own bilingual reading and writing curricula. Children attending our primary school are ideally prepared for the transition to our bilingual secondary school. Students can transfer from and into the public school system at any time.

Bilingual Instruction

Each class in our primary school has a German-speaking and an English-speaking class teacher. These two teachers take turns teaching the children in nearly equal measure. In this way, primary school students are immersed in a bilingual environment every day. Furthermore, subjects like maths or social studies are taught in both languages ensuring that children acquire an extensive vocabulary.

Varied Lessons

In our lessons, we use different learning styles supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure. Working with tablets and notebooks, for example, enables students to acquire new knowledge in a playful manner and helps them deepen their understanding of what they have already learned.

Full-Day Concept

We want to actively support families by offering comprehensive and flexible full-day services. Your child can be supervised daily at school from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Lessons take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and school days are divided into regular intervals with time for learning, play and breaks. Our early care from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. allows children to arrive and get ready for the day. We offer homework supervision from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., your children can participate in after school clubs, or they can read, play or rest.

Benchmarking Tests

From Year 3 of primary school, our students sit national and international benchmarking tests and achieve good results on a regular basis. Results are communicated transparently to parents and provide a basis for individual objectives, which are discussed in parent consultations with the teachers twice a year.
