A Stimulating Learning Environment that Embraces Childrens' Curiosity

Learning to learn: Our English/German bilingual kindergarten offers a stimulating and supportive learning environment for children aged three to six years. We nurture their innate curiosity with the world by offering diverse learning opportunities in our day school concept.

Kindergarten Curriculum

The SIS Friedrichshafen kindergarten and preschool programme is based on the local state curriculum for early childhood education (Orientierungsplan für Bildung und Erziehung für die baden-württembergischen Kindergärten) as well as on curricula developed by SIS with selected key areas. In this way, learning is enriched with relevant and meaningful content and bilingualism is promoted at the same time.

One of our areas of focus is project work, which allows the children to involve themselves deeply with a topic and to learn through hands-on experience.

Another objective of our work is teaching the children to be independent. We want to enable children to learn and act autonomously. They should gain a sense of achievement from being able to do things by themselves, thereby strengthening their self-confidence.

Our kindergarten curriculum includes the following six areas of learning:

  • Personal and Social Development
  • Language Development
  • Mathematics
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development

Bilingual Kindergarten

The children are supervised by German- and English-speaking professionals who communicate with the children in their mother tongue, true to the principle of "one person – one language". Thus, German and English are spoken roughly in equal measure throughout the day. Language is acquired through the immersion method - complete immersion in one language - which enables children to quickly find their way around in both languages and grow up naturally bilingual.

In the SIS kindergarten, we emphasise learning through play and discovery, focused on age-appropriate topics. Children begin to explore their immediate environment, they learn to become part of a group and develop an independence appropriate to their age. Little by little, the children's curiosity to learn is awakened.

Our kindergarten consists of two mixed-age groups for children aged three to six years. Admission is also possible during the year.

Full-Day Concept

We want to actively support families by offering a comprehensive and flexible all-day concept. Your child can be supervised at school from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Eventful School Days

Regular excursions, games, sports and exercise play an important role. The children take part in activities and projects across year levels, and celebrate local and international festivals and traditions. Furthermore, they gain their first, age-appropriate experiences in the areas of digital technology, programming, media as well as communication and e-safety.

Engaging Learning Spaces

The kindergarten facilities are located in a separate wing on the ground floor of our school building with direct access to the outdoor area. Our youngest children feel very much at home in the various group rooms, play corners and a nap room.
