At our primary school, students aged six and above acquire high-level language skills in both English and German, which is of paramount importance at this level. We promote awareness and respect for other cultures as the cornerstone of an international education. We aim to empower students and give them a voice in their learning process.
Primary School Curriculum
The SIS primary school curriculum is consistent with the curriculum laid down by the Berlin department of education, supplemented by elements of the British curriculum as well as curricula developed by SIS. It offers a balanced mix of subject-oriented and experimental learning. In addition to subject matter, the children acquire working and learning techniques that enable them to gain knowledge and skills independently and to reflect on their own progress.
The development of skills in both the languages is of primary importance at this level. SIS curricula, for e.g. in the areas of reading and writing, ensure that language acquisition in German and English goes hand in hand and that the learning processes in the two languages support and reinforce each other.
Our primary school ideally prepares the children for attending our bilingual secondary school. A transfer from or to public schools is possible at any time.
Bilingual Instruction
Both German and English are equally important languages of instruction at our primary school and are taught by our native-speaking teachers with a lot of empathy. Through the immersion method, primary students naturally learn the respective partner language. Similar to the acquisition of the mother tongue, students are immersed in the new language, which surrounds them in class as well as outside during extra-curricular activities and homework assignments.
Varied Lessons
In our lessons, we use different learning styles supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure. Working with tablets and notebooks, for example, enables students to acquire new knowledge in a playful manner and helps them deepen their understanding of what they have already learned.
Full-Day Concept
We want to actively support families by offering comprehensive and flexible full-day services. Your child can be supervised daily at school from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Lessons take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Friday until 1:45 p.m.). Until 4:30 p.m. children have the possibility to participate in various after-school clubs. After school supervision from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. can be booked additionally.
Further Activities
Other activities outside the classroom enrich our school life and strengthen our school community. Read more about our vivid everyday life.
Benchmarking Tests
From Year 3 of primary school, our students sit national and international benchmarking tests and achieve good results on a regular basis. Results are communicated transparently to parents and provide a basis for individual objectives, which are discussed in parent consultations with the teachers twice a year.
Status of the School
Our primary school is a state-recognised private school and thus enjoys comparable status to public schools. Examinations and certificates are equivalent to those issued by state schools.
